Caste Certificate

Caste certificate is a documentary proof of a person belonging to a certain caste, as categorized under the Indian Constitution. It is also commonly known as a community certificate. Caste Certificates are used to provide certain privileges to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in order to bring equality among all the citizens. Thus, a caste certificate is mandatory for receiving any such benefits for a person belonging to Scheduled Cast or Scheduled Tribe community.


Types of Certificates:

  1. OBC Certificate
    • Other Backward Class (OBC) is a collective term used by the Government of India to classify castes which are socially or educationally or economically disadvantaged. It is one of several official classifications of the population of India, along with Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (SCs and STs).


  2. SC/ST Certificate
    • Where no SC/ST certificate has been issued to any member of applicant's family, in that case, two government servants should certify that the Applicant is permanently known to them and he belongs to the caste (name the cast) which is SC/ST, along with the attested copies of their identity cards


  3. Income Certificate
    • Income certificate is issued for the purpose of certifying annual income of a person from all the sources of Income. Income certificate is required for claiming scholarship and also for admission in educational institutions and hostels


  4. Domicile Certificate
    • A Domicile/Residence Certificate is generally issued to prove that the person bearing the Certificate is a Domicile/Resident of the State/UT by which the Certificate is being issued. This certificate may also be required by institutions giving loan, as a proof of place of residence.
